Sports Massage Therapy

Sports Massage Therapy

Sports massage is manual manipulation of the muscles geared specifically toward helping people who have physically demanding lifestyles and/or hobbies. This kind of therapeutic massage considers the impact of certain activities on specific joints, muscle groups, tendons, ligaments, and soft tissue groups.

The conscious focus of sports massage therapy maximizes the benefit of certain massage techniques and supports further physical exertion and activity. An initial assessment is used to create a specially informed massage therapy plan that will meet each individual athlete’s specific needs.

Sports massage can be classified as the more focused sibling of a traditional deep tissue massage. These two massage techniques are similar; each using firm pressure with a concentrated focus on the muscles and connective tissue deep within the body. But with a sports massage, our therapists often incorporate stretching exercises and the session may be targeted to a specific problem area.

Sports massage is a special massage that helps athletes by reducing muscle soreness, improving flexibility, and speeding up recovery. It targets muscles and tissues stressed by exercise to improve performance and prevent injuries.

It reduces muscle pain and stiffness, flushes out waste products, increases blood flow, and helps muscles heal faster. It also improves flexibility and lowers the risk of injuries during sports or workouts.

It can be done before a big event to prepare muscles, or after an event to help with recovery and soreness. Regular maintenance sessions are also highly recommended for injury prevention.
